Sizing a High Pressure Coolant System

General Sizing Guidlines

1000 psi at 8 gallons per minute is a good "standard" high pressure coolant system. Many machine tool spindles are designed for this capacity and these specifications cover a large range of "standard" coolant fed tooling. CoolJet's 70-36 Series and 70-30 Series meet these specifications.

Smaller machines (small lathes, 30-taper machining centers, Swiss machines) often run smaller tooling which is more suited to smaller flow rates and/or higher pressures. CoolJet's Mini Series are suitable for these applications.

Large machines, twin-turn lathes, 50-taper machines may run large tooling or simultaneously run multiple cutting operations. These machines usually require higher flow rates and benefit from variable flow pumping to accommodate their varying flow requirements. CoolJet's UltraFlex Series is designed for these types of applications.
